If you’re not a subscriber, here’s a few recent posts that give you a taster of what I write about here:
If you follow the mobile devices space, you know that rumors about the next generation of smartphones account for a whole lot of web posts, tweets, and videos on an ongoing basis. Rumors around flagship smartphones’ come even more fast and furious; feeling like there’s not much more than a few weeks pause after the release of this year’s model.
If you follow this publication, you know that I’m a big follower of the mobile and smartphones space. My religion is Android :) and I have used quite a number of flagship phones from Google, Samsung, OnePlus, and, most recently, Nothing - makers of the unique and fun Nothing Phone 2.
My primary daily driver for the last three years or so has been a Pixel phone. I love a bigger display, so that has been the Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 7 Pro, and this year the Pixel 8 Pro.
So of course the recently trending rumors about the Pixel 9 have grabbed my attention. The biggest news in these rumors is that the Pixel 9 will offer three sizes of it. According to multiple reliable Android/mobile sites there will be Pixel 9, a Pixel 9 Pro, and a Pixel 9 XL. According to The Verge and 91mobiles, the sizes of the three models will be:
Pixel 9 Pro XL: 6.5-inch display
Pixel 9 Pro: 6.1-inch display
Pixel 9: 6.03-inch display
Tom’s Guide says the Pixel 9 XL will have a 6.7 inch display, the same as the Pixel 8 Pro. The Pixel line is coming off its best year ever in terms of sales and market share, and I think if the three size options proves true, that should lead to another big boost. I know anecdotally and via online reporting that many smartphone users are “over it” when it comes to smartphones with large displays, wishing for more smaller phone options. This shift to three models might at least come close to having something for everyone as far as feeling comfortable with the Pixel’s size.
What do you all think about these rumors?
Patrick,
I purchased a Pixel 7 Pro on your advice, and it has proven to be the worst phone I ever owned. I paid $999.00 for the 512 GB model. The camera stinks. There are only 2 photo resolution options - ginormous and ultra miniscule. The magic erase feature never worked. It is impossible on a 6.7 inch screen to select an area to erase. The quirkiness of the phone is outrageous. It is completely stupid on all grounds; no smartness here with this one. Money down the drain. Never again.
