I’m still stretching, icing, and PT exercising my way past a back injury, and that’s my excuse for not writing something on cybersecurity today. Instead, I’m just going to share a quick update on this:
Just a couple weeks ago, my update would have been to say that I’d been sticking with the Pixel 8 Pro consistently, clash or battle over. Then that changed due to one well-known bit of Pixel flakiness and another that is unexpected. The known issue is with flaky connectivity - random minutes where WiFi, cellular, or sometimes both don’t provide good results.
The unexpected issue is with voice-to-text. I’ve found over recent weeks that while the Pixel 8 Pro can be mostly stellar with its speed and accuracy, it has a nasty habit of sometimes completely missing one, two, or more words when I begin speaking. My phone is my primary note taking device, at work and outside of work - which means this is a big deal for me.
Last week I got the Nothing Phone 2 charged up and just had it sitting closeby, like a sixth man ready to get into an NBA game. During the week I had multiple occasions where notifications showed up on the Nothing Phone 2 and my Pixel Watch long before (up to maybe 10 minutes) they showed up on the Pixel 8 Pro.
So I swapped back to the Nothing Phone 2 and it has been doing a great job on note taking, connectivity, and in general. I fully expect that I’ll swap back to the Pixel at some point not far away, but it’s lovely to have the option to switch between these two great phones as needed.
And now for some happy news on the AI front. Check out this headline from The Guardian:
That’s gotta be a strong candidate for Headline of the Week.
Hope you are feeling better soon, my friend!
Ah, got it - I know goat, but hadn't seen goated - like it a lot, almost as much as the home screen :)
