Obsidian Sync - Secure, Fast, Feature Rich
I wrote just a couple weeks ago about using two great note taking apps for PKM and all my note taking needs. I had a quick mention of Obsidian Sync in that post, but I think it deserves a few more word as it such a great feature.
Here’s a short list of the sweet features and capabilities of Obsidian Sync:
Secure: Sync employs end-to-end encryption using the current gold standard AES-256 encryption standard. You can set your own encryption key or have Obsidian manage it for you.
Fast: In my experience Obsidian syncs in close to real-time. When I create a new note on my Mac, update an existing one, or add a new PDF or image file to it, I either see the changes immediately in the app on my phone, or within just a few moments. The same goes with changes made on my phone showing up in the desktop app. I’m currently syncing my notes to my Pixel 7 Pro and also to the Nothing Phone 2 I’ve been trying out over recent weeks.
Features: Sync works across all the major platforms: Mac, Windows, Linux, iOS, and Android. And it lets you create up to 5 vaults (the top level of Obsidian notes file structure) and sync each of those vaults to as many devices as you need to. There’s also version history, file recovery, and control over what you sync (everything, images, audio etc). I really like that the sync log is easy to see - to confirm all is good or get an idea of what issues there are with the current sync.
Obsidian is a great notes app for many reasons, and Obsidian Sync is definitely one of them.
